Information for Parent Teacher Associations
Help us celebrate Earth Day this year (April 22nd) by participating in this special opportunity to help our community to transition from incandescent bulbs to energy-saving CFL bulbs!
To make a significant difference in our counties, we encourage the participation of as many PTAs as possible. This is a grassroots effort!
Your PTA can benefit from the project by:
- EDUCATION: Providing your students with a real world opportunity that demonstrates how any individual, at any age, can take action to help make the world a better place. The more incandescent bulbs we replace in each home or business, the more energy we save and the cleaner we can make our air. Here, you can find and share information on energy conservation and the advantages of CFL bulbs, great websites for kids on climate change issues, and answers to questions about proper handling and disposal. Feel free to download and share the information provided.
- FUNDRAISING: Generating supplemental income for springtime sports, music or other special programs. Because there is only one product and it will be shipped directly to each school, the administrative commitment by each PTA to the program is minimal.

How does it work?
Your PTA can customize the program to best meet YOUR needs. PTAs can generate income through the sales for its general account. Alternatively, PTAs, especially at the high school level, may want to coordinate the program on behalf of sports, music or academic clubs that are often struggling in the spring for income for trips and equipment. High school students may welcome a chance to contribute to their clubs by offering an environmentally friendly product to their relatives and neighbors. Also, PTAs with previously scheduled events held this spring may want to pre-order bulbs by the carton at the wholesale price and offer the bulbs at a school or club function.
TCP, the nation’s largest CFL bulb manufacturer, has agreed to provide Spring Light brand ENERGYSTAR-rated CFL bulbs to our PTAs at specially discounted rates:
-
3-Pack of 60 watt equivalents (14w CFL):
- $4.50 per 3 -pack for quantities of 300 or more packs
- $5.50 per 3- pack for quantities of less than 300 packs
The PTA price to the public for each 14w 3-pack is set at $8.00
or,
3-Pack of 100 watt equivalents (23w CFL):
- $6.45 per 3- pack for quantities of 300 or more packs
- $7.45 per 3- pack for quantities of less than 300 packs
The PTA price to the public for each 23w 3-pack is set at $10.00
Note: Shipping is included in these wholesale prices. The 300 quantity pricing goal can be met by any single order that includes any combination of 3-pack bulbs (such as all 14w bulbs, all 23w bulbs or any combination of 14w and 23w bulbs).
Two Ordering Options:
- SALES BOOTH: A PTA may order bulbs in bulk from TCP for resale at a booth at a school or club function by submitting A PTA Order Form and payment. This ordering option is available as of March 1, so that PTAS can have bulbs on hand for events as early as mid-March. If you run out, you can take orders for additional bulbs with this Booth Order Form and reorder from the manufacturer for distribution at a later date. Please also provide Fact and Disposal Sheets (available on FORMS/MATERIALS page) to purchasers.
or,
- INDIVIDUAL STUDENT SALES: A PTA may organize a bulb drive with individual student sales, tally quantities needed, and then order the bulbs from TCP and take delivery after Earth Day. (Note: If your PTA is participating in the program in collaboration with a school club or Booster organization, the PTA must coordinate the effort.).
To organize as a student order sale:
- Print and distribute a Fact Sheet on the program and Order Forms for distribution to each child the week BEFORE Earth Day. Students can take orders from customers from April 22 - May 6.
- Tally the student Order Forms on a Tally Sheet, and submit order to TCP with wholesale payment by check or credit card. Bulb orders received by May 13th will be delivered to the school for distribution by May 22nd.. Please distribute Fact and Disposal Sheets (available on FORMS/MATERIALS page) along with the bulbs.
Please note that bulb boxes should be picked up and delivered by adults.
No child may take bulbs home in a backpack, on a bus, etc.
Meeting the Goal--Recognition For Students
Bright Futures and TCP will tabulate the total number of bulbs ordered and distributed and recognize participating schools and their students’ contributions on this website.
Please register your PTA today so we can send you updates and other information on this exciting program... and thank you for your help in making the world a better place... and for helping us show…it only takes one kid to help change the world.
